Abstract
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology, particularly chatbots, has emerged as a powerful tool in the digital era in the last decade and has been widely used in various fields. Chatbots also called conversational agents are software applications that use natural language to interact with humans. The novel technologies enhance academic libraries by providing opportunities to enhance educational services for their users. This chapter focuses on the implementation of ChatGPT in academic libraries, mainly highlighting implications in information retrieval and automated metadata generation, by introducing AI concepts in machine learning, natural language processing, and data analytics. Also, it describes how this AI-driven process can improve search efficiency, provide tailored recommendations, and enable intelligent interactions between patrons and library resources. Finally, the chapter explores the potential of integrating ChatGPT into the academic library’s information services.
