Abstract

This chapter explores the implementation of 3D printing technologies within the library environment. A systematic literature methodology was implemented to retrieve articles relating to the use of these technologies in libraries. The findings of the review were categorized according to the specific type of library found. Thus, the prevalent role of public and academic libraries in embracing emerging technologies related to 3D printing was highlighted. Moreover, several other issues were underscored in this research, such as various ways and approaches to implementing 3D printing in library spaces, as well as challenges faced. The discussion synthesis can become an important resource for policymakers, librarians, information scientists, and researchers in the field and can provide interesting reflections and thoughts on the implications of such technologies within the library world. The chapter concludes with several interesting remarks, which could be further explored and investigated.
