Inner Development Goals
Ein Kapitel aus dem Buch Inner Development Goals

Abstract

This chapter explores the intersection of personal embodied self-exploration and collective ecological awareness through a phenomenological study in environmental education on the west coast of Canada. The research integrates the Inner Development Goals (IDGs) framework, providing practical demonstrations of its reconceptualized dimensions – collaborating, being, relating, thinking, and acting – through an outdoor eco-embodiment program influenced by yogic and deep ecology principles. The research involved focus groups, interviews, and journals from participants to assess the program’s impact on their relationship with themselves and their environment.

Findings reveal transformative insights into inner development, highlighting participants’ ability to integrate the program’s material into therapeutic tools for navigating mental and emotional challenges, particularly related to the climate crisis. The chapter demonstrates the potential of eco-embodiment practices in fostering inner growth and ecological identity. This work emphasizes the need for place-responsive education to enhance our connection to the natural world and contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
