Transformations ordre-désordre de la cordiérite

Abstract

The polymorphism of cordierite has often been related with the postulated existence of order-disorder transformations of this mineral. Natural samples of cordierite have been studied by infrared spectrometry before and after heating at high temperature and the distortion index Δ measured. It is concluded that the low–high cordierite transformation is really accompanied by order-disorder transitions.
