den Werner-Köster-Preis 2004
für die Aufsätze Kinematics of connected grain boundaries in 2D und Efficiency of drag mechanisms for inhibition of grain growth in nanocristalline materials in der Zeitschrift für Metallkunde 95 (2004) 219 und 239.
In den beiden Aufsätzen wird erstmals ein quantitatives Konzept vorgestellt, das den Beitrag der Korngrenzen-Tripelpunkte zur Stabilität von polykristallinen Gefügen feinkörniger und nanostruk-turierter Werkstoffe beschreibt. Diese Beiträge, denen ein hoher Rang in der Materialforschung zukommt, sind zugleich ein eindrucksvolles Beispiel für die langjährige Zusammenarbeit zwischen dem Institut für Metallkunde und Metallphysik der RWTH Aachen und dem Institut für Festkörperphysik der Russischen Akademie der Wissenschaften in Chernogolovka.
