Berlin calling: ISOS XVII and the 7th European Silicon Days

ISOS XVII BERLIN 2014, the 17th International Symposium on Silicon Chemistry held jointly with the 7th European Silicon Days, will bring together research and industrial scientists and students from around the globe to present and discuss the latest aspects of silicon chemistry in Berlin, Germany, August 3–8, 2014. At the Technische Universität Berlin, right in the center of Germany’s capital city, a vital forum will be created for exchanging new ideas among the world’s leading as well as young scientists within the silicon community – in an inspiring and interdisciplinary atmosphere.

High-ranking speakers providing the fertile matrix for an inspiring conference

The following nine prominent plenary speakers will be present at ISOS XVII BERLIN 2014:

  • David Avnir, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel

  • Antoine Baceiredo, Université Paul Sabatier, Toulouse, France

  • Paul Chirik, Princeton University, NJ, USA

  • Scott Denmark (Kipping Awardee 2014), University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA

  • Gernot Frenking, Philipps-Universität Marburg, Germany

  • Hans-Joachim Freund, Fritz-Haber-Institut, MPG, Berlin, Germany

  • Ian Manners, University of Bristol, UK

  • Akira Sekiguchi, University of Tsukuba, Japan

  • Shigehiro Yamaguchi, Nagoya University, Japan

In addition, 48 invited speakers will be present their chemistry at ISOS XVII BERLIN 2014. For further information on the program see > www.isos2014.de/program

WACKER Silicone Award 2014

The WACKER Silicone Award – along with the Kipping Award the world’s most prestigious accolade in silicon chemistry – will be presented during ISOS XVII BERLIN 2014.

Share thrilling news in silicon chemistry!

The organizers cordially invite you to present your latest results in silicon chemistry at ISOS XVII BERLIN 2014 – from fundamentals to new applications in raw materials processing as well as developing new reliable solutions for energy-saving and sustainability.

Register now! Please register as soon as possible as the number of participants is limited.

Submit an abstract for your contribution – poster presentation or short lecture. Online abstract submission will be open until March 31, 2014. See > www.isos2014.de/registration

In particular, the organizers would like to encourage PhD students to demonstrate their dedication to silicon chemistry by presenting a short lecture, the best of which will be awarded. The organizers also hope to receive many submissions from colleagues in industry.

Seeking for the young talents in silicon chemistry

At ISOS XVII BERLIN 2014, a new platform will be launched for enthusiastic and talented undergraduate, graduate, PhD students and post docs, establishing a new magnet for young participants of ISOS – named Silicon Youth Valley. The organizers are looking for excellent students and young academics active in silicon research, who would like to present themselves and their work in a special way: Science reflects the person – and the person is as central as the science. In a special posters “Si & me” (Silicon and me) each participant may merge the science presented with a biographical note. And may spark excitement about their chemistry in a “Science Slam” – in an ultrashort oral presentation, using any original means.

Apply for membership of Silicon Youth Valley. As a fellow of the Silicon Youth Valley you will receive an appreciable refund on your registration fee – and you have a chance to win one of the Silicon Youth Valley Awards. For further details see > www.isos2014.de/program/silicon-youth-valley
