Research Data Management: A Study with Special Reference to Smart Libraries
-
Shivanand D. Bulla
Abstract
Smart libraries are created by the integration of cutting-edge technologies known as research data management, or RDM. The modern library, or “smart library,” combines smart people, smart technologies, and smart services. The study demonstrates how new smart technologies are making smart libraries smarter, improving their operational capacities and satisfying the needs of the consumers that utilize them. By integrating smart technologies, libraries are now better equipped to meet the ever-evolving and conflicting needs of their patrons. In the future, this could also help the library’s relevance to research communities. This chapter also highlights the necessity of enhancing librarians’ RDM competences and skills and considers the dynamics of rivalry and cooperation in RDM, as well as newly developed smart technologies in smart libraries and how they affect the user experience, services provided, and technological integration of libraries.
