Ein Kapitel aus dem Buch Designing Next-Gen Libraries

Abstract

The rural community, especially the farmers and their associated family members who work hard in the agricultural farms and act as a catalyst in the growth of the nation, is deprived of the minimal facilities and services that hinder their growth. Due to a lack of knowledge, facilities, and skills, they cannot make the proper decisions and thus end up in hazardous situations. This chapter aims to serve the deprived rural community of the nation in terms of modern amenities that support basic means of education, agriculture, livelihood, and community engagement in rural areas. Embracing the next-generation library for rural communities involves incorporating innovative technologies and strategies to enhance access to information, education, and community engagement. The concept of next-gen libraries for rural communities holds immense promise for bridging the digital divide, fostering community engagement, and enhancing learning and development.

A proposal on the conceptual framework for the Integrated Rural Development Project (IRDP) is explained here as well as how this project can benefit the rural community by advancing their livelihood without any dependency. Also, this proposal explains how this project can establish various advantages to the rural community and the adoption of state-of-the-art technologies in rural libraries, extending their value-added services to community users to support their activities.

Finally, this work highlights the conceptual design and proposal planned for the IRDP proposal at Magala Village in Karnataka, India, and the action points in progress including the issues and challenges, probable solutions, etc. At the same time, it delves into how rural libraries play a pivotal role in enhancing the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and achieving the different SDGs set by UNESCO including education, environment, and other societal impact goals.
