Invective Discourse
Ein Kapitel aus dem Buch Invective Discourse

Abstract

In invectives, discourses converge that are differently motivated, address different issues and have very different social and political functions. In order to show this, we will focus on invectives that followed a single story on Facebook and the internet in Italy from 10 May to 15 May 2020. We proceed from a thematic analysis of the invectives. This methodological practice results in the identification of various interconnections with different discourses and thereby yields starting points for qualitative linguistic, sociological and anthropological analyses. The analysis of invectives allows us to read states of mind of some people and thereby to capture exemplarily psychological, economic and politicalideological states in a society - in this case in Italian society at the time of the Corona pandemic.
