Tourism Destinations: Risk, Management and Communication
-
Thaana Ghalia
Abstract
Risk management and the role of communication in effective destination development form the themes of this chapter. We discuss the underlying principles, practices and ethics of risk management relating to tourism. We examine how risk management and communication can be used to safeguard or, as needed, reinstate the prospects for destination development. We do not discuss the complexities of destination development itself. We simply present case studies from different geographical locations that appear to us to illustrate clearly the salient points of risk and its management relative to the interests of sustainable destination development.
