Scripture and Theology
This chapter is in the book Scripture and Theology

Abstract

The article gives a first report and information about the research project “Karl Rahner and the Bible,” granted by the Austrian Science Fund. It focuses on the backgrounds and characteristics of his approach to Scripture, exposes its roots in the Spiritual Exercises and his philosophical formation. There an ambivalence in his attitude towards the Bible can be seen; on one hand marked with high esteem, on the other with preference for the tradition of the Church. This affects also Rahner’s stance towards the Old Testament and Judaism.
