Abstract
Coating and lamination techniques offer great potential in improving the value of technical textiles. These techniques enhance and broaden the spectrum of functional performance of textiles, making them suitable for various smart/technical applications. In this chapter, there is discussion on various polymers and chemicals used in speciality coating and lamination of textiles, preparation of base fabric, coating and laminations methods, their scopes, and end use. This chapter covers fluoropolymer coatings, solvent-based adhesive coating, reactive coating, urea-based adhesive coatings, biopolymer coatings, peelable coating, chemical vapour deposition coatings, flame-retardant polymer coating, electrospun polymeric nanofiber coatings, waterproof coating, electrically conductive coating, active and smart coatings (memory polymer coating), self-healing coating, breathable coatings, biomimetic coatings, seed coatings, and so on. A few speciality lamination techniques such as sheet lamination, thermal lamination of polyurethane films, ethylene-vinyl acetate-based lamination, breathable lamination, transparent film lamination, electrospun nanofibre-based lamination, and decorative laminations are also covered in this chapter.
