6. The Unsuccessful Marriage
-
Lena Kästner
Summary
Craver’s (2007b) mechanistic explanations successfully capture the interlevel nature of empirical research in cognitive neuroscience. Without the concepts imported from Woodward’s (2003) interventionism, they do not get off the ground, however. While Woodward’s interventions do capture some core principles of experimental design, they are not suited for handling mechanistic interlevel relations. This renders the marriage between mechanistic explanations and Woodwardian interventions highly problematic.
