14.3 “Minor” Ibero-Romance Languages

Abstract
In the following section, we will describe the codification attempts of Galician, Asturleonese in the broad sense (in the narrow sense: Asturian and/or Mirandese) and Aragonese both from a diachronic and synchronic perspective. By naming and characterizing the main reference tools for the languages under consideration, we will show that different current opinions about the “correct” codification proceedings have been competing with each other for a long time (in the case of Galician: for more than two centuries). In order to create a common ground for comparison, the discussions will be systematized along four dimensions. At the end of each subsection, the (more or less) established present-day norm concept provided by social forces will be compared with contemporary opinions and uses of the speakers, with a special focus on the digital media.
