Abstract

Orthography and orthoepy are traditionally closely related within the tradition of Spanish language cultivation. While orthography is explicitly standardized through dictionaries and orthographic treatises as a symbol of unity, Spanish orthoepy lacks dedicated reference instruments. Along with an outline of the present state of codification, this article will provide an overview of the main orthographic issues and their relationship to pronunciation. Besides traditional reference instruments, more recent and dynamic forms of standardization and normative orientation through the internet will also be taken into account.
