In this paper we investigate the control of three-dimensional non-autonomous fractional-order uncertain model of a permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) via a adaptive control technique. We derive a dimensionless fractional order model of the PMSM from the integer order presented in the literatures. Various dynamic properties of the fractional order model like eigen values, Lyapunov exponents, bifurcation and bicoherence are investigated. The system chaotic behavior for various orders of fractional calculus are presented. An adaptive controller is derived to suppress the chaotic oscillations of the fractional order model. As the direct Lyapunov stability analysis of the robust controller is difficult for a fractional order first derivative, we have derived a new lemma to analyze the stability of the system. Numerical simulations of the proposed chaos suppression methodology are given to prove the analytical results derived through which we show that for the derived adaptive controller and the parameter update law, the origin of the system for any bounded initial conditions is asymptotically stable.

In this paper, a combined form of the Laplace transform method with the homotopy perturbation method is applied to solve nonlinear fifth order Korteweg de Vries (KdV) equations. The method is known as homotopy perturbation transform method (HPTM). The nonlinear terms can be easily handled by the use of He’s polynomials. Two test examples are considered to illustrate the present scheme. Further the results are compared with Homotopy perturbation method (HPM).

The currently available commercial motion capture systems are constrained by space requirement and thus pose difficulties when used in developing kinematic description of human movements within the existing manufacturing and production cells. The Kinect sensor does not share similar limitations but it is not as accurate. The proposition made in this article is to adopt the Kinect sensor in to facilitate implementation of Health Engineering concepts to industrial environments. This article is an evaluation of the Kinect sensor accuracy when providing three dimensional kinematic data. The sensor is thus utilized to assist in modeling and simulation of worker performance within an industrial cell. For this purpose, Kinect 3D data was compared to that of Vicon motion capture system in a gait analysis laboratory. Results indicated that the Kinect sensor exhibited a coefficient of determination of 0.9996 on the depth axis and 0.9849 along the horizontal axis and 0.2767 on vertical axis. The results prove the competency of the Kinect sensor to be used in the industrial environments.

The aim of the present paper is to study the influence of Hall current and Joule heating on flow, heat and mass transfer over an exponentially stretching sheet in a viscous fluid. Using similarity transformations the governing nonlinear coupled equations are converted into ordinary differential equations. These equations are linearized using the successive linearization method and then solved using the Chebyshev pseudo spectral method. The influence of magnetic parameter, Hall parameter, suction/injection parameter and slip parameter on the physical quantities are presented graphically. The obtained results are compared with the previously published results for special cases.

Nonlinear Schrödinger type equations arise from a wide variety of fields, such as fluids, nonlinear optics, the theory of deep water waves, plasma physics, and so on. In this paper, two integration schemes are employed to obtain solitons, periodic waves and other forms of solutions of the coupled nonlinear Schrödinger type equations. The two schemes that are studied in this paper are the Bäcklund transformation of Riccati equation and the trial solution method.

The nonlinear dynamic characteristics of a railway vehicle are checked into thoroughly by applying two different wheel-rail contact model: a heuristic nonlinear friction creepage model derived by using Kalker ’s theory and Polach model including dead-zone clearance. This two models are matched with the quasi-static form of the LuGre model to obtain more realistic wheel-rail contact model. LuGre model parameters are determined using nonlinear optimization method, which it’s objective is to minimize the error between the output of the Polach and Kalker model and quasi-static LuGre model for specific operating conditions. The symmetric/asymmetric bifurcation attitude and stable/unstable motion of the railway vehicle in the presence of nonlinearities which are yaw damping forces in the longitudinal suspension system are analyzed in great detail by changing the vehicle speed. Phase portraits of the lateral displacement of the leading wheelset of the railway vehicle are drawn below and on the critical speeds, where sub-critical Hopf bifurcation take place, for two wheel-rail contact model. Asymmetric periodic motions have been observed during the simulation in the lateral displacement of the wheelset under different vehicle speed range. The coexistence of multiple steady states cause bounces in the amplitude of vibrations, resulting instability problems of the railway vehicle. By using Lyapunov’s indirect method, the critical hunting speeds are calculated with respect to the radius of the curved track parameter changes. Hunting, which is defined as the oscillation of the lateral displacement of wheelset with a large domain, is described by a limit cycle-type oscillation nature. The evaluated accuracy of the LuGre model adopted from Kalker’s model results for prediction of critical speed is higher than the results of the LuGre model adopted from Polach’s model. From the results of the analysis, the critical hunting speed must be resolved by investigating the track tests under various kind of excitations.

The objective of the present study is to investigate the effect of nonlinear variation of density with temperature and concentration on the mixed convective flow of a micropolar fluid over an inclined flat plate in a non-Darcy porous medium in the presence of the convective boundary condition. In order to analyze all the essential features, the governing non-dimensional partial differential equations are transformed into a system of ordinary differential equations using a local non-similarity procedure and then the resulting boundary value problem is solved using a successive linearisation method (SLM). By insisting the comparison between vertical, horizontal and inclined plates, the physical quantities of the flow and its characteristics are exhibited graphically and quantitatively with various parameters. An increase in the micropolar parameter and non-Darcy parameter tend to increase the skin friction and the reverse change is observed in wall couple stress, mass and heat transfer rates. The influence of the nonlinear concentration parameter is more prominent on all the physical characteristics of the present model, compared with that of nonlinear temperature parameter.

This paper investigates steady two dimensional flow of an incompressible magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) boundary layer flow and heat transfer of nanofluid over an impermeable surface in presence of thermal radiation and viscous dissipation. By using similarity transformation, the arising governing equations of momentum, energy and nanoparticle concentration are transformed into coupled nonlinear ordinary differential equations, which are than solved by homotopy analysis method (HAM). The effect of different physical parameters, namely, Prandtl number Pr, Eckert number Ec , Magnetic parameter M , Brownian motion parameter N b , Thermophoresis parameter N t , Lewis parameter Le and Radiation parameter R d on the velocity, temperature and concentration profiles along with the Nusselt number and skin friction coefficient are discussed graphically and in tabular form in details. The present results are also compared with existing limiting solutions.
