Abstract

This chapter explores different understandings of the nation-state, addressing the complexity and relevance of a contested concept, from the perspective of feminist political geography scholarship. The chapter proceeds in a few parts. First, it unpacks the concepts of nation, nationalism, and nation-building processes. Second, it sets the nation-state literature in the context of new geographies of gender and sexuality. Third, it engages with feminist work on borders, mobility, and migration through a focus on the Global South. It concludes with a discussion of research on decoloniality in feminist research.
