Abstract

Intimate geopolitics considers how the geopolitical infringes upon and is constituted by intimacies of the everyday. This chapter begins by tracing feminist political geography’s engagement with intimacy and the development of intimate geopolitics. Then, it outlines how existing research has employed intimate geopolitics through four key themes: territorial and border struggles, the home, forging and maintaining relationships, and methodological interventions. The chapter concludes by outlining potential avenues for future work. Firstly, it suggests working with intimate geopolitics alongside other conceptual frameworks like queer theory and reproductive justice. Secondly, there are opportunities to make methodological contributions that center the body, for example body-mapping.
