Abstract

This chapter reviews much of the work done on the bilingual phonological acquisition of one or more Romance languages. In a first step, it focuses on segments, by separating those that are shared by all Romance languages from those that appear in only one or a few Romance languages, and examines the child acquisition of vowels, consonants, and several phonological processes in bilingual settings. In a second step, it discusses how bilingual children acquire syllabic constituents, (re) syllabification, and the higher levels of prosodic structure, i.e. intonation and speech rhythm.
