In the second part of the article, the discussion of the concepts of »text« and »artefact« in Old Testament studies, history and archaeology is continued and applied to problems posed by the history of Israel. Finally, a new approach to the reconstruction of the history of ancient Israel is envisaged, i.e., an approach drawing on the insights of Max Weber and other major representatives of Historische Kulturwissenschaften . Abstract Dans cette seconde partie de l'article se poursuit l'étude des concepts de »texte« et d'»artefact« ( realia ) dans les études vétéro-testamentaires, appliquée au problèmes posés par l'histoire de l'Israël antique. En conclusion est proposée une approche nouvelle de la reconstruction de l'histoire d'Israël, une approche fondée sur les vues de Max Weber et d'autres représentants des sciences historiques des civilisations. Abstract Im zweiten Teil des Beitrags wird die Diskussion der Konzepte von »Text« und »Artefakt« in alttestamentlicher Wissenschaft, Geschichte und Archäologie fortgesetzt und auf Probleme der Geschichte Israels angewandt. Schließlich wird ein neuer Zugang zur Rekonstruktion der Geschichte des alten Israel ins Auge gefaßt, ein Zugang, der auf die Einsichten Max Webers und anderer bedeutender Vertreter der Historischen Kulturwissenschaften Bezug nimmt.

Because of the grievous famine which plagued the land, Abram and Sarai went down to Egypt (Gen 12,10). The question naturally arises: What happened, if indeed anything, between Pharaoh and Sarah the Matriarch? In this article I suggest a new line of reasoning which may lead to a conclusive answer to this question. My claim is that »something« did occur between the two. In the familiar term »measure for measure« the same word »measure« was chosen in order to express the connection and mutual suitability, both in content and in form, between the act (the sin) and its results (the punishment). A good example is the word ’āchal in the story of Eden, which describes both the sin and its punishment. Adam's and Eve's sin was that »she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat , and gave also unto her husband with her, and he did eat « (Gen 3,6). The punishment is, of course: »In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread« (3,19). It is therefore possible to claim that since Pharaoh's punishment is described by means of the verb nāga‘ (‭םיעגנ‬), his sin was that he touches ( nāga‘ ) Sarai. The use of nāga‘ for the sin which Abimelech (in Gen 20) almost committed in the second story supports this claim. L'A. suppose que »quelque chose« se passa entre les deux. Selon le principe: »mesure pour mesure«, le terme de »mesure« permet d'exprimer le rapport et la correspondance, aussi bien en termes de contenu que de forme, entre l'acte (le péché) et ses conséquences (le punition). Le terme ’āchal – »manger« dans le récit du jardin d'Eden en fournit un bon exemple puisqu'il désigne aussi bien le péché que sa punition. Le péché d'Adam et d'Eve consista en ce qu' »elle en prit un fruit dont elle mangea et elle en donna aussi à son homme, qui était avec elle, et il en mangea « (Gen 3, 6). La punition en est: »À la sueur de ton visage tu mangeras le pain« (3,19); il est ainsi permis d'affirmer, pour Gen 12, que la punition du pharaon est décrite par le verbe nāga‘ (‭םיעגנ‬), son péché étant qu'il ait touché ( nāga‘ ) Sara. Dans le second récit (Gen 20), l'usage de nāga‘ , pur désigner le péché qu'Abimélèk était sur le point de commettre, confirme cette affirmation. Abstract Infolge der großen Hungersnot, die das Land plagte, zogen Abram und Sarai nach Ägypten (Gen 12,10). Die Frage, die sich naturgemäß stellt, lautet: Was hat sich zwischen dem Pharao und Sarah, der Erzmutter, ereignet? In diesem Aufsatz soll der Beweis erbracht werden, dass es »irgendetwas« gegeben hat, was zwischen beiden geschehen ist. Bei dem Prinzip »Maß für Maß« wird das gleiche Wort »Maß« gewählt, um den Zusammenhang und die Entsprechung, sowohl in Inhalt als auch in Form, zwischen der Handlung (die Sünde) und ihren Folgen (die Strafe) auszudrücken. Ein gutes Beispiel hierfür bietet in der »Paradies«-Erzählung das Wort ’āchal , welches sowohl die Sünde als auch die Strafe beschreibt. Adams und Evas Sünde bestand darin, dass »sie von seiner Frucht nahm und aß und auch ihrem Mann gab, der bei ihr war, und er a ß« (Gen 3,6). Die Strafe ist bekanntermaßen: »Im Schweiß deines Angesichts wirst du Brot essen « (3,19). Die Schlussfolgerung lautet deshalb: Da die Strafe des Pharao durch das Verb nāga‘ (‭םיעגנ‬) beschrieben wird, bestand seine Sünde darin, dass er Sarai berührt hat ( nāga‘ ). Die Verwendung von nāga‘ zur Beschreibung der Sünde, die Abimelech nach der zweiten Erzählung (Gen 20) beinahe begangen hätte, stützt diese Behauptung.

Embalming and the duration of the mourning period cited in the description of Jacob's death (Gen 49,29–50,14) indicate the adoption of Egyptian practices. While it is a case of the Israelite adoption of Egyptian customs, at the same time the author finds an original way to separate embalming from the foreign beliefs associated with it. The portrayal of Jacob's death and his eventual burial in the Land of Israel turn out to have a theological message that stresses the fulfillment of God's promise to Jacob and his sons. Abstract L'embaumement et la durée de la période de deuil, qui sont mentionnés dans le récit de la mort de Jacob (Gen 49,29–50,14), indiquent l'adoption de pratiques égyptiennes. Même s'il s'agit clairement de la reprise de pratiques égyptiennes, le narrateur trouve cependant un mode de présentation original, afin de purifier le rite d'embaumement de ses représentations funéraires étrangères. Il ressort ainsi de ce récit de la mort de Jacob et de son enterrement au pays d'Israël un message théologique, à savoir l'accomplissement de la promesse divine à Jacob et à ses fils. Abstract Die Balsamierung und die Dauer der Trauerperiode, die in der Beschreibung von Jakobs Tod (Gen 49,29–50,14) erwähnt wird, weisen auf die Übernahme von ägyptischen Praktiken hin. Auch wenn es dabei zur Übernahme von ägyptischen Bräuchen durch die Israeliten kommt, findet der Autor jedoch gleichzeitig einen originellen Weg, um die Balsamierung von den mit ihr verbundenen fremden Glaubensvorstellungen zu reinigen. Somit erweist sich, dass die Darstellung von Jakobs Tod und seinem schließlichen Begräbnis im Land Israels eine theologische Botschaft besitzt, die die Erfüllung von Gottes Verheißung an Jakob und an seine Söhne in den Mittelpunkt stellt.

Originally, the passage known as the (Deuteronomic) Decalogue comprised only five commandments: to worship God exclusively, not to make idols, not to serve deities, not to misuse the name of God, and to honour one's parents. Subsequently, this pentalogue was enlarged by 〉civil〈 commandments to form a series of ten items. Eventually, the injunction to keep the Sabbath holy was also added. The present form of Deuteronomy 5,6–21 is legitimately called the »ten words« by the significant, tenfold use of the divine name. Addressed to the generation returning (or expecting to return) from Babylonian exile, the pentalogue tells its audience to dissociate themselves from the »iniquity of the fathers«. The fathers' sin of worshipping gods other than Yahweh led to the downfall of the Judean state, the loss of the land, and, as a consequence, to the collapse of the authority of the past generation. Turned to in an act of spiritual reorientation and worshipped exclusively, however, the father-figure of God will compensate for the terrible and traumatic loss of parental authority. Abstract Originellement, le texte connu sous le nom de Décalogue (deutéronomique) se composait de cinq commandements seulement: servir Deu seul, ne pas fabriquer des idoles, ne pas se prosterner devant des divinités, ne pas prononcer le nom de dieu à tort, et honorer les parents. Par la suite, ce »pentalogue« religieux fut enrichi par plusieurs prescriptions »civiles« afin d'aboutir à une série de dix commandements; finalement, le commandement du Sabbat fut insérée. C'est à juste titre que la forme canonique de Deut 5,6–21 est appelée les »dix paroles« par ce que le nom divin s'y trouve dix fois. Adressé à la génération revenant de l'exil babylonien (ou espérent en revenir), le pentalogue invite ses auditeurs à se dissocier de la »faute des pères«. Cette faute – la vénération des dieux autres que Yahvéh – conduisit à la chute du royaume de Juda, la perte du pays et, par conséquant, à la ruine de l'autorité de la génération précédente. Si l'on se tourne vers Dieu dans un acte de ré-orientation spirituelle, la figure paternelle de Dieu comblera la lacune laissée par la perte terrible et traumatique de l'autorité du père humain. Abstract Der als (deuteronomischer) Dekalog bekannte Abschnitt umfasste ursprünglich nur fünf Gebote: Gott allein zu verehren, keine Bilder herzustellen, keinen Göttern zu dienen, den Namen Gottes nicht zu missbrauchen, und die Eltern zu ehren. In der Folgezeit wurde dieser Pentalog durch »weltliche« Bestimmungen erweitert, sodass sich eine Reihe von zehn Geboten ergab. Schließlich wurde noch das Sabbatgebot eingefügt. Die jetzige Gestalt von Dtn 5,6–21 wird mit Recht die »zehn Worte« genannt, ist doch der Gottesname in diesem Text zehnmal enthalten. An die Generation derer gerichtet, die aus dem babylonischen Exil zurückkehren (oder zurückzukehren hoffen), fordert der Pentalog dazu auf, vom »Frevel der Väter« Abstand zu nehmen. Die Sünde der Väter, nämlich andere Götter als Jahwe zu verehren, hatte zum Untergang des judäischen Staates geführt, zum Verlust des Landes und, als weitere Folge, auch zum Zusammenbruch der Autorität der letzten Generation. Erfolgt eine Zuwendung zum göttlichen Vater in einem Akt spiritueller Neuorientierung, so kann Gott den schrecklichen und traumatischen Verlust der väterlichen Autorität ausgleichen.

On the background of recent research on Isa 55,1–5 in the context of the book of Isaiah this article makes observations relating to the literary affinities (allusions) of these verses mainly to deutero-isaianic texts (perhaps also to Isa 11,12), but also to Isa 60. The conclusion is that Isa 55,1–5 is a text which consciously unites elements of traditions, we now find in deutero-isaianic and 〉trito-isaianic〈 portions of the book. Abstract Sur la base des études récentes sur Isa 55,1–5 dans le contexte du livre d'Esaïe, l'A. présente des observations quant aux affinités littéraires (allusions) de ces versets avec le Deutéro-Esaïe (également, peut-être, Isa 11,12), aussi bien qu'Isa 60. Il en ressort qu'Isa 55,1–5 est un texte qui réunit consciemment des éléments de la tradition, tels que nous les trouvons présentement dans les sections deutéro- et 〉trito〈-esaïennes du livre. Abstract Auf dem Hintergrund des gegenwärtigen Forschungsstandes zu Jes 55,1–5 im Kontext des Jesajabuches werden in diesem Artikel Beobachtungen zu literarischen Bezügen (Anspielungen) dieser Verse mitgeteilt, die sich vor allem zu deuterojesajanischen Texten (möglicherweise auch zu Jes 11,12), aber ebenso zu Jes 60 ergeben. Die Schlussfolgerung daraus lautet, dass Jes 55,1–5 ein Text ist, der bewusst Elemente der Tradition vereinigt, wie sie jetzt in den deutero- und 〉tritojesajanischen〈 Teilen des Buches zu finden sind.

The article analyses influences on religious attitudes of Palestinian Jews on the eve of the Antiochean crisis, which resulted in an »inner conversion« to an »apocalyptic« way of thinking. Especially the historical allusions in the Old Greek version of Dan 8,9 match with the events around the conquests of Coele-Syria by Antiochos the Great at the turn of the third to the second century BC. Furthermore, the notice on the emancipation of slaves in Dan 8,11 (OG) recalls a decree of Antiochos III (cf. Ant 12,138–144). The »tolerant« attitude of the Seleucids to religious activity which is evident here finds further confirmation in measures of Antiochos III which are attested in inscriptions from Hefzibah and Caria. Abstract L'analyse traite de la question de l'attitude religieuse des Juifs à la veille de la crise sous Antiochos IV Épiphane. Cette crise peut être interprétée comme la raison d'une »conversion intérieure« de ces milieux qualifiés d'»apocalyptiques«. Le livre de Daniel offre, selon ses témoins grecs, des allusions historiques à l'époque pré-maccabéenne: ainsi Dan 8,9 concerne manifestement des conquêtes en Coelé-Syrie sous Antiochos III. Par ailleurs, la notice sur la libération de l'esclavage en Dan 8,11 renvoie à des mesures comparables de la part d'Antiochos, comme il est établi dans les décrets transmis par Flavius Josèphe (cf. Ant 12,138–144). D'autres témoignages établissent une attitude de coopération et de »tolérance« des Séleucides pour les questions de politique religieuse au début du règne d'Antiochos III; des inscriptions de Hefzibah ou de la Carie confirment cette tendance à la »tolérance« et à la »loyauté« de la part des Diadoques. Abstract Die Analyse stellt sich der Frage nach den Einflüssen auf die religiöse Haltung des palästinischen Judentums am Vorabend der Krise unter Antiochos IV. Epiphanes. Jene Krise kann als Anlass zur »inneren Konversion« jener Kreise verstanden werden, die man als »apokalyptisch« bezeichnet. Historische Anspielungen auf jene vor-makkabäische Epoche liefert das Danielbuch nach seinen griechischen Zeugen: So reflektiert Dan 8,9 offenbar Eroberungen Koile-Syriens unter Antiochos III. Dan 8,11 verweist mit seiner Freilassungsnotiz auf vergleichbare Maßnahmen des Antiochos, wie sie in den durch Josephus überlieferten Dekreten (vgl. Ant 12,138–144) belegt sind. Die hier durchscheinende »tolerante« Haltung der Seleukiden in religionspolitischen Fragen findet schließlich eine Bestätigung in Maßnahmen Antiochos' III., die inschriftlich etwa für Karien oder in einem Dokument aus Hefzibah bezeugt sind.

This article shows that if one applies the supplementary approach – E as the original source and J as the redactor to Gen 30f. – a story in which Jacob had seven sons instead of twelve is uncovered. Corroborating evidence is brought from the Joseph cycle and ramifications of this division are explored. Abstract Cette étude montre que, si l'on adopte l'hypothèse des compléments ( E étant la source originelle et J le rèdacteur de Gen 30s.), il en résulte un récit- E dans lequel Jacob a sept fils, au lieu de douze. Des arguments supplémentaires proviennent du cycle de Joseph, dont les ramifications sont ici explorées. Abstract Der Artikel zeigt, dass bei Zugrundelegung der Ergänzungshypothese ( E als ursprüngliche Quelle und J als Redaktor von Gen 30f.) sich eine E -Erzählung ergibt, in der Jakob sieben Söhne statt zwölf besitzt. Unterstützende Argumente für diese Auffassung werden dem Josephzyklus entnommen, auch werden dieser Differenzierung entsprechende Befunde untersucht.

The Psalmist presents the experience of a worshipper in v.1 (report of cry for help and deliverance by Yahweh), by telling of his conversation with Yahweh. Since the redactor felt the lack of a conclusion, he attached Ps 121 to provide one. Abstract Ps 120, 1'récit de l'appel du Psalmiste à YHWH et du salut reçu, présente l'expérience de l'orant et relate son dialogue avec le Seigneur. Cherchant à trouver une conclusion, qui est ici absente du texte, le rédacteur y adjoignit le Ps 121 à cet effet. Abstract Der Psalmist entfaltet in V. 1 – Bericht von Hilferuf und Rettung durch Jahwe – die Erfahrung eines Beters, indem er sein Gespräch mit Jahwe mitteilt. Da der Redaktor einen Abschluss vermisste, fügte er als solchen Ps 121 hinzu.
