An imidazoline phosphate surfactant is designed and synthesized, and its application on corrosion inhibition is evaluated from the following aspects: (1) concentration of inhibitor; (2) temperature; (3) concentration of acid. The imidazoline phosphate is also mixed with KI as an assistant agent, and the results from weight loss measurement show better inhibition efficiency.

Oxyethylenated fatty acid methyl esters are considered to be a promising alternative to oxyethylenated fatty alcohols widely used in laundry detergent productions. Oxyethylenated fatty acid methyl esters display propensity to hydrolysis in alkaline washing solutions, which might affect the washing process. The hydrolysis of oxyethylenated fatty acid methyl esters was found to be innocuous towards the washing process since only 10% of the overall amount was hydrolyzed at 60°C, pH = 12 in 1 hour. The cmc depends on a degree of oxyethylenation. The cmc of methyl ester and ethyl ester bearing 10 oxyethylene groups is 0.8 mmol · L −1 . The cmc of esters bearing 20 oxyethylene groups is 1.2 mmol · L −1 . The foaming properties of oxyethylenated methyl esters bearing between 10 and 20 oxyethylene groups is constant. In case of oxyethylenated ethyl esters the foaming was increasing with the number of oxyethylene groups.

The processing of textiles to achieve a particular handle is one of the most important aspects of finishing technology. Softeners improve soft handle, smoothness, elasticity, hydrophilic, antistatic and soil release properties on textiles. Macro and micro sized silicone softeners are commonly used for these purposes but nano silicone is a new class of softener. In this research, polyester fabrics were first scoured with nonionic detergent and then treated with three concentrations of nano and micro silicone softeners in water including 10, 20 and 30 g/L at 30°C for 60 seconds by padding method. The treated fabrics were then dried/cured at 130°C for 40 seconds. The pH was maintained at 5 using acetic acid. Some of the physical and chemical properties of the treated fabric samples were discussed. The drapeability of nano emulsion treated samples was decreased compared with micro emulsion treated ones. Colorimetric properties of softener treated fabrics were evaluated with reflectance spectrophotometer. Scanning electron microscope photographs showed nano silicone particles aggregated on fiber surface. Moisture regain of nano emulsion treated samples was decreased compared with micro emulsion treated due to coating of nano silicone particles.

This paper describes an efficient method for the synthesis of long chain alkylamido imidazolines by the reaction of diethylenetriamine and oleic acid under non-solvent microwave irradiation using calcium oxide as support and their comparison with conventional thermal condensation process. Synthesized imidazolines were then quaternized by using dimethylsulfate as a quaternizing agent and isopropanol as a solvent, to produce cationic imidazolinium salts which were evaluated for yield and cationic content. The instrumental techniques, viz. FT-IR and 1 H-NMR verified the formation of imidazolines and its subsequent quaternization. The surface active and performance properties of cationic imidazolines in terms of c.m.c., surface tension, dispersability, emulsion stability, softening, rewettability and detergency were also reported.

The micellization behavior of cetyltributylphosphonium bromide (CTBPB) has been studied in aqueous ethylene glycol, dimethyl formamide, dimethyl sulfoxide, acetonitrile, 1-propanol, methanol, 1,4-dioxane and tetrahydrofuran mixtures (10–20% v/v) over the temperature range (300–320 K) by conductometry. The critical micelle concentration (cmc), extent of counterion binding (α) and thermodynamic parameters (ΔG o m , ΔH o m , ΔS o m ) for micellization process have been reported and discussed. The cmc values were found to increase with an increase in temperature and % of organic solvent.

Magnesium soaps of caproic and caprylic acids were prepared and a cell was set up for the measurement of EMF (electromotive force) of the cell containing referred soap solutions in methanol water solvent system with the aid of ion-selective electrode. The critical micelle concentration of soap solutions was determined by plotting the electromotive force of the cell against soap concentration. The critical micelle concentration of these soap solutions varies with increase in chain length of the fatty acids in the soap. The energetic studies of the system have been carried out from the electromotive force values of the cell containing soap solution to ascertain the chain length compatibility and agglomeration profile. The values of free energy change are negative indicating the spontaneity of cell reaction and decreases with increasing soap concentration while increases with the increase methanol concentration in solvent mixture.

Filament cross-sections used in textiles and composites are becoming more and more complex. The type of cross-sectional shape impacts filament properties and are therefore, yarn and fabric characteristics. In this paper, the influence of different filament cross-section geometry on fibre properties as well as on fabric surface characteristics was studied. PET (polyethylene terephthalate) filament yarns made from two different cross-sectional shaped filaments, round and cruciform, were manufactured by the melt spinning process. Polyester fabrics were manufactured in a needle band weave machine from these two types of filament yarns. Topographic characteristics of polyester fabrics manufactured were determined by an imaging instrument for optical roughness analysis based on the principle of chromatic aberration. Differences between soiling behaviour, cleanability and wettability of the fabrics were revealed and discussed.
