The fabrication of mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) is of particular importance due to their advantages over neat membranes. The performance of MMMs is a function of the type and fraction of the nanoparticles in the membrane. Moreover, the proper interaction of the polymer and nanoparticles affects the MMMs performance. In this study polysulfone (PSf)/SBA-15 mesoporous silicas MMMs were prepared and their performance was evaluated for CO 2 /CH 4 gas separation. SBA-15 mesoporous silicas were previously synthesized and functionalized with 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane by post-synthesis treatment. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy, N 2 adsorption–desorption, and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller analysis was applied to examine the functional groups, morphology, and textural properties of the unmodified and modified mesoporous silica in the prepared membrane, respectively. The effects of modified and unmodified SBA-15 particle loading were investigated for the gas separation performance of PSf/SBA-15 membranes. The experimental results illustrate that a higher modified mesoporous silica loading leads to an increase in gas permeance and gas pair selectivity. The highest increase in permeability and selectivity was related to the incorporation of S 2 and AP-S 2 into the PSf matrix, respectively.

In the rubber industry, rheometric properties are critical in defining processing times and temperatures. These parameters of rubber compounds are determined by time-consuming and expensive laboratory studies performed in a rheometer. Artificial intelligence approaches, on the other hand, may be used to estimate rheometric properties in seconds without the need for any samples or laboratory experiments. In this research, artificial neural network, Gaussian process regression, and support vector regression techniques are used to predict minimum and maximum torque, 30% and 60% cure time of a rubber compound using both process parameters and raw material composition as input. The dataset comprises 1128 batches of the selected rubber compound. A detailed sensitivity analysis is performed to determine the best performing hyperparameters and the prediction performances are expressed as mean absolute percentage error (MAPE). Minimum, maximum, and average MAPE values are presented for each artificial intelligence technique. Besides this research contributes to fill the gap in rubber industry literature, the results obtained also strongly improve the existing literature results.

Two asymmetric diamines [1,1′-biphenyl]-4-yl(3,5-diaminophenyl) methanone (BPDAM) and (3,5-diaminophenyl)(4′-(naphthalen-1-yl)-[1,1′-biphenyl]-4-yl) methanone(DANPBPM) were synthesized by Suzuki coupling reaction from (4-bromophenyl)(3,5-diaminophenyl) methanone (BDAM) and corresponding arylboronic acid. A series of polyimides exhibiting organic solubility were prepared from 2,2′,3,3′-biphenyl tetracarboxylic dianhydride(BPDA) and these above three new diamines via a two-stage process. The obtained polymers showed outstanding organic solubility and high thermal stability. And studies have shown that the storage device with a sandwich type configuration of Al/polyimide/ITO was prepared by the traditional liquid spin coating technology, which showed the storage capacity of flash memory type. All the polyimide-based devices showed bistable conductivity switching and nonvolatile memory behavior that had long preservation period and high ON/OFF electric current, the rate of which was 10 4 .

Polyacrylonitrile (PAN) fiber is soft and comfortable, but its poor strength compared to other synthetic fibers has limited it wide range of applications. This study effectively improved the strength of PAN fibers by adding graphene oxide (GO) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) during PAN spinning. The composite fibers were prepared via gel spinning and subsequent hot drawing process. The results show that the PVA molecular chains embedded into the PAN molecular chain significantly improved the mechanical properties of the hybrid fiber. At the same time, the defect reduced the UV resistance and thermal stability of the hybrid fibers only when the PVA molecular was introduced in the PAN. Surprisingly, after the recomposition of GO in the above mixed polymer system, the interaction between the GO and matrix not only improved the mechanical properties of the fiber, but also enhanced the UV resistance and thermal stability. In addition, when the amount of GO was 0.3 wt%, the crystallinity of the GO/PVA/PAN composite fiber reached the maximum and the tensile strength was the highest. This strategic approach suggests an effective method to prepare graphene-based ternary composites fibers with high strength and novel functional characteristics.

In this study, controlled release of trans-chalcone was achieved by using a polycaprolactone-based hybrid system as the drug carrier material. Encapsulation efficiency was obtained in the range of 70–75% for various formulations and in vitro release studies, conducted at 37 °C and pH 7.4, revealed slow profile reaching 60% cumulative release. As interpreted from kinetic modelling, drug release was controlled mainly by Fickian diffusion; polymer erosion did not contribute to the TC release. Difference in drug loading efficiencies of the hybrid and neat PCL microparticles was observed such that PCL microparticles had lower loading efficiency than the hybrid microparticles whereas the release profiles were similar. pH of the release medium had affected release profiles; acidic medium enhanced drug release. Characterization of the microparticles were realized by FT-IR, TGA, DSC, SEM and WCA which revealed key properties such as molecular dispersion state and hydrophilicity. With the results obtained, we concluded that our hybrid system has a significant potential for long term release of trans-chalcone.

This work demonstrates the rapid coating of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) onto electrospun composite polyacrylonitrile (PAN) nanofibers containing a large amount of graphene oxide (GO) and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) for photothermally-driven applications. A modification of GO with a cationic surfactant greatly improves its loading efficiency into the PAN nanofibers, and the subsequent hydrazine treatment readily converts the integrated GO into rGO. Rapid loading of AuNPs onto these membranes results in measurably higher photothermal heating characteristics than the pristine PAN, GO-PAN, and rGO-PAN membranes under a solar-simulated light source. The light-induced heating properties are then utilized in the removal of organic dyes in an aqueous solution. While the GO-PAN and rGO-PAN membranes remove the dyes via physical adsorption, the AuNP-loaded membranes show an additional catalytic decomposition process, resulting in detectably faster removal rates. The degradation of the organic dyes is accelerated under a solar simulated light source due to the light-enhanced heating and photocatalytic properties of the integrated AuNPs. The ability to maximize the dual properties of these membranes can greatly reduce toxic organic pollutants, which can lead to the development of practical water purification systems under sunlight irradiation.

To overcome the lack of dissolved oxygen in high-density aquaculture water, a hydrogen peroxide-acrylic resin inclusion complex with sustained oxygen releasing effect was designed and prepared. The resin was synthesized by emulsion polymerization of acrylic acid, methyl methacrylate and butyl acrylate in a mass ratio of 2: 3: 5, and neutralized with sodium hydroxide solution by 50%. The resin solution was mixed in a mixture of urea and 30% hydrogen peroxide solution (CO(NH 2 ) 2 : H 2 O 2 , 1: 1, mol: mol), and dried at 40 °C for 4 h to obtain the hydrogen peroxide-acrylic resin inclusion complex. The product with 4.0% resin by mass of hydrogen oxygen solution, could release oxygen for 92 h in pond water. After optimization by adding a small amount of NaCl, Na 2 SO 4, and EDTA, it was mixed with calcium carbonate and magnesium stearate in a mass ratio of 5: 4: 0.9, and pressed into tablets (1.2 × 0.6 cm, 0.99 g). One tablet in 50 L simulated micro ecosystem aquaculture water with 20 of Carassius auratus fish could release oxygen for 116 h and brought fish with 83.3% of survival rate higher than 51.7 and 70.0% of blank and sodium percarbonate groups.

The direct encapsulation of electronic components is an effective way of protecting components against external influences. In addition to achieving a sufficient protective effect, there are two other big challenges for satisfying the increasing demand for encapsulated circuit boards. The encapsulation process should be both suitable for mass production and offer a low component load. Injection molding is a method with good suitability for large series production but also with typically high component stress. In this article, two aims were pursued: first, the development of a calculation model that allows an estimation of the occurring forces based on process variables and material parameters. Second, the evaluation of a new approach for stress reduction by means of thermoplastic foam injection molding. For this purpose, simulation-based process data was generated with the Moldflow simulation tool. Based on this, component stresses were calculated with the calculation model. The suitability of the new approach was clearly demonstrated and a significant reduction in shear forces during overmolding was achieved. It was possible to demonstrate a process development that makes it possible to meet the two main requirements of direct encapsulation in addition to a high protective effect.

Friction and wear in a tribological system are directly dependent on the surface structure and roughness of the friction partners involved. In this article, a clear interaction between surface topologies and their roughness depth was identified for the material pairing polyamide 66 – steel. The typical correlation between roughness and wear, initially decreasing and increasing after a wear minimizing roughness, was found for all surface topologies, albeit at different levels. The effect of the surface topology is negligible at low roughness ( S z  < 2.0 µm) with adhesive wear processes determining the wear behaviour. At higher roughness depths ( S z  > 2.0 µm), the ability of the surface topology to form a stable transfer film determines the tribological behaviour by limiting the effect of abrasive wear processes. A stable transfer film is formed with sufficient roughness and undercuts in the direction of motion, which can be characterised by the average roughness depth, R z , in the direction of motion. Based on these empirical results, an explanatory model for the observed behaviour is presented.
