Dr. McCarthy has undertaken several different research projects which were designed to obtain insight into the moral reasoning of adults. For example, a recently submitted manuscript detailed a study investigating gender and age differences, built on King and Kitchener's (1994) investigation of gender and age as potential variables affecting moral reasoning. They found little support for gender differences in moral reasoning when they used the Reflective Judgment Interview. They also found differences in levels of moral reasoning on the basis of age. However, they noted that educational attainment levels may have confounded the results of their study. Dr. McCarthy was contacted about her research.
