Der vorliegende Artikel basiert auf einer an der Fachhochschule Köln entstandenen Master's Thesis und beschäftigt sich mit den theoretischen Grundlagen sowie der Praxis der Vermittlung von Informationskompetenz an deutschen Hochschulbibliotheken. Nach einem Vergleich von Entwicklung und derzeitigem Stand der Diskussion zwischen den USA und Deutschland werden die Ergebnisse einer Website-Untersuchung vorgestellt. Den Abschluss bildet ein Ausblick auf Möglichkeiten zur weiteren Verbesserung der allgemeinen Informationskompetenz in Deutschland. The present article bases upon a Master's Thesis written at the University of Applied Sciences Cologne and deals with theoretic principles and practical issues of information literacy in academic libraries. Following the comparison of development and current state of the discussion in the USA and Germany, the results of a website analysis are introduced. The final part oft the survey outlines possibilities for further improvement of general information literacy in Germany. L‘article présent est basé sur une thèse „Master“ soutenue à l‘Ecole supérieure de bibliothèques de Cologne et s‘occupe des bases théoriques ainsi que de la pratique de médiation de la compétence d‘information auprès des bibliothèques universitaires allemandes. Aprés une comparaison du développement et de l‘état actuel de la discussion entre les Etats-Unis et l‘Allemagne on présente les résultats d‘une enquête d‘un site web. L‘article clot avec une vue sur les possibilités d‘une amélioration future de la comptence générale d‘information en Allemagne.

Obwohl fast alle größeren Bibliotheken intellektuelle Sacherschließung betreiben, sind elektronische Kataloge für die zielgerichtete sachliche Suche nur eingeschränkt nutzbar. Durch maschinelle Indexierung können ohne nennenswerten personellen Mehraufwand ausreichend große Datenmengen für Informationsretrievalsysteme erzeugt und somit die Auffindbarkeit von Dokumenten erhöht werden. Geeignete Sprachanalysetechniken zur Indextermerzeugung sind bekannt und bieten im Gegensatz zur gebräuchlichen Freitextinvertierung entscheidende Vorteile beim Retrieval. Im Fokus steht die Betrachtung der Vor- und Nachteile der gängigen Indexierungssysteme MILOS und intelligentCAPTURE. Almost every large library practises intellectual indexing, yet electronic catalogs are still restricted as far as their usability for thematic searches is concerned. Automatic indexing can increase data input into catalogs and improve document retrievability without much additional personnel expenditure. Language analysis technologies suitable for automatic index term creation are available and offer a number of retrieval advantages as compared with common full text indexing. This article focuses on the pros and cons of the two indexation systems MILOS and intelligentCAPTURE. Bien qu'à peu près toutes les grandes bibliothèques pratiquent la catalogisation matière par voie intellectuelle, les catalogues électroniques ne sont utilisables que de facon restreinte pour une recherche matière. Par l'indexation automatique on peut générer des quantités de données suffisamment grandes pour les systèmes de recherche d'information sans beaucoup de couts personnels et par là augmenter les chances de retrouver les documents. Des techniques d'analyse de langage appropriés à générer des termes d'indexation sont connues et offrent des avantages décisifs pour la recherche en comparaison avec la catalogisation traditionnelle. Au centre de l'article on pèse les avantages et les désavantages des systèmes usuels d'indexation MILOS et intelligentCAPTURE.

Controlling stellt ein Instrument zur Unterstützung der Führung im Unternehmen dar. Es trägt zur rationalen Führung bei, zeigt Potenziale auf und fördert Kosten- und Leistungstransparenz. Gegenstand der hier vorgestellten Arbeit ist ein Controllingkonzept für die Universitätsbibliothek Hohenheim. Neben der Analyse der bestehenden Controllingpraxis werden Überlegungen zu deren Weiterentwicklung aufgezeigt. Grundlegende Kenntnisse zum Controlling vermittelt der Literaturteil dieser Arbeit. Sie sind als Hintergrundwissen zum Verständnis des entworfenen Controllingkonzeptes hilfreich. Ausgewählte Leistungsindikatoren werden für die UB Hohenheim entwickelt und vorgeschlagen. Controlling is an instrument to support the management of firms and organizations. It shows potentials, and contributes to cost and performance transparency. Objective of this study is the development of a controlling concept for the Hohenheim University Library. Starting with the analysis of the present controlling process considerations for a further development are shown. The theoretical part of the work mediates fundamental knowledge about controlling. This should be helpful for the understanding of the controlling concept which is developed. Selected performance indicators are developed and introduced. Le „controlling“ est un instrument de soutien pour la gestion des entreprises. Il contribue à la gestion rationelle, démontre des potentiels et fait progresser la transparence des couts et de la performance. Le sujet de cet article est un concept de „controlling“ pour la Bibliothèque universitaire de Hohenheim. A part de l'analyse de la pratique existante du „controlling“ on présente des considérations pour leur développement futur. Une liste de littérature apporte les connaissances de base du „controlling“, qui sert à la compréhension du concept de „controlling“ esquissé. Des indicateurs de performance sélectionnés sont développés et proposés pour la Bibliothèque universitaire de Hohenheim.

Die Bestände von Sondersammlungen unterliegen in der Regel besonderen Sicherheitsvorkehrungen und Benutzungsbedingungen. Wenn dabei personenbezogene Daten erhoben und verarbeitet werden, können Bibliotheken mit den Datenschutzgesetzen in Konflikt kommen. Der Artikel skizziert das problematische Verhältnis von Datenschutz und Bestandsschutz in Sondersammlungen und verdeutlicht am Beispiel eines konkreten Vorfalls in der Universitäts- und Landesbibliothek Bonn, dass Altbestandsbibliothekare auch gegenüber den Datenschützern ihre Bestandsschutzgrundsätze mit Erfolg vertreten können. As a rule, special collections are subject to particular security regulations and conditions of use. Libraries may, however, get into a conflict with data protection laws, if they collect and process personal data for that purpose. This article outlines the difficult relationship between data protection and the preservation of special collections. It shows by means of an incident that occurred at Bonn University Library that Rare Books Librarians can successfully maintain a conservation and protection policy vis-à-vis data protection officials. Généralement les fonds de collections spéciales sont soumis à des règlements de sécurité et conditions d'utilisation spéciaux. Les bibliothèques risquent cependant d'entrer en conflit avec les lois de protection de données si des dates personnelles sont relevées et traitées. L'article esquisse le rapport problématique entre la protection de données et la protection de fonds de collections spéciales et rapporte l'exemple d'un incident concret passé à la Bibliothèque universitaire de Bonn démontrant que les bibliothécaires des livres rares peuvent défendre la politique de conservation et de protection avec succès contre les protecteurs de données.

Die Stadtbücherei Würzburg gilt als eine der erfolgreichsten Bibliotheken in Deutschland. Für ihre Arbeit erhielt sie zahlreiche Auszeichnungen wie beispielsweise den Preis „Bibliothek des Jahres 2003“, und auch beim nationalen Leistungsvergleich „BIX“ erzielte sie mehrmals Spitzenergebnisse. In den letzten zwölf Jahren erfolgte eine komplette Umprofilierung der Bibliothek – von der traditionellen Bücherei hin zu einem modernen Informations- und Kommunikationszentrum mit einem klaren Profil. The Würzburg Public Library is considered as one of the most successful public libraries in Germany. For its work it was awarded with different prizes like for example the „Library of the Year 2003“ and it performed strongly in the national library ranking „BIX“ several times. The library profile has tremendously changed in the last twelve years – from an old-fashioned, traditional library to a modern centre of information and communication with a clear philosophy. La Bibliothèque municiaple de Würzburg est considérée comme une des bibliothèques publiques des plus couronnées de succès en Allemagne. Pour son travail elle a recu maintes distinctions comme par exemple le prix „Bibliothèque de l'année 2003“ et obtenait pareillement des positions de pointe lors de la comparaison nationale des performances „BIX“ à plusieurs reprises. Pendant les douze années dernières le profil de la bibliothèque fut entièrement redessiné – c'est-à-dire d'une bibliothèque traditionelle elle passa à un centre d'information et de communication modernes au profil net et distinct.

The paper discusses the design and architectural aspects of the New National Library Building (NNLB) Singapore which was opened to the public on 12 November 2005. The focus of the paper is on convergence and how the NNLB building has embraced the arts, heritage and library functions integrated into a single building. The author argues that the principles of adaptability, connected facade and eco-efficiency are key tenets of the Millennium library which leans on converging spaces and integrated learning. Der Beitrag behandelt das Design und die Architekturaspekte des neuen Gebäudes der Nationalbibliothek von Singapur, das am 12. November 2005 eröffnet wurde. Der Fokus des Beitrags liegt auf Konvergenz und wie das NNLB-Gebäude die Kunst, nationales Erbe und die Bibliotheksfunktionen in ein einzelnes Gebäude integriert. Der Verfasser argumentiert, dass die Prinzipien der Anpassbarkeit, zusammenhängende Fassade und Öko-Tauglichkeit die Hauptgrundsätze der Millennium Bibliothek sind, die sich auf konvergierende Räume und integriertes Lernen stützen. La contribution discute le design et les aspects architecturaux du nouvel édifice de la bibliothèque nationale de Singapour ouvert au public le 12 novembre 2005. L'accent de la contribution est mis sur la convergence, comment l'édifice de la Bibliothèque nationale a embrassé les arts, l'héritage et les fonctions bibliothécaires et les a intégrés dans un seul édifice. L'auteur argumente que les principes d'adaptabilité, la facade d'un seul tenant et l'aptitude éco sont les clés principales de la bibliothèque du millenium qui conduisent à des espaces convergentes et des études intégrés.

Die Herzogin Anna Amalia Bibliothek in Weimar ist am Abend des 2. September 2004 von einem verheerenden Feuer heimgesucht worden. Der Beitrag berichtet über die organisatorischen Aspekte der Bewältigung des Unglücks und beschreibt die internen Arbeitsstrukturen, die für die Aufgabe maßgeblich waren. Abschließend wird ein kurzer Überblick über den Stand der Arbeiten auf den Feldern Restaurierung und Wiederbeschaffung von verlorenen Büchern sowie Öffentlichkeitsarbeit gegeben. The Herzogin Anna Amalia Library in Weimar/Germany was the victim of a ravaging fire on the evening of September 2, 2004. The article gives a report on the organisational aspects involved in dealing with the accident and describes the internal organizational structure which was instrumental in mastering this challenge. Finally the author gives a short survey on the status of the progress in the areas of book restoration, replacement of lost books, and public relations. Le soir du 2 septembre 2004, la bibliothèque Herzogin Anna Amalia a été atteinte par un feu dévasteur. Cet article rend compte de l'organisation qui a fait suite au désastre et décrit les structures de travail internes décisives pour les réparations. Pour finir, l'auteur donne un aperçu des travaux de la restauration, du remplacement des livres perdus et de la communication faite par la bibliothèque.
