This chapter is in the book Social Policy Review 17

Abstract

This chapter states that social democracy can mean different things at different times, even when it is the same government in office. It shows that the New Labour project is not the one that might have been expected in 1997. The authors consider that the early aim of changing the public–private balance in pension contributions is effectively gone.
