Abstract

A preparation route of ferrite magnetic material by leaching of Jinchuan nickel sulfide concentrates in hydrochloric acid was developed. Pre-roasting of the concentrates could significantly improve the leaching efficiency of nickel. X-ray diffraction measurements, thermogravimetric, and differential thermal analyses were used to determine the phase transition after pre-roasting. The leaching could extract almost 100% nickel and 89% iron. The present process involved pre-roast of nickel sulfide concentrate, hydrochloric acid leaching at ambient pressure, solid–liquid separation, co-precipitation, and calcination. The nickel ferrite doped with Cu2+ and Mg2+ could be obtained by co-precipitation and calcination. Further study confirmed that ferrite products were of spinel structure and exhibit good ferromagnetism.
