Possible incommensurate phase in KFeF4

Abstract
We analyse in the framework of the Landau theory of second order phase transitions the continuous structural transformation arising in KFeF4 at 368°K. We note that in this case, the thermodynamic potential expansion against the order parameter contains a Lifchitz invariant, so that an incommensurate phase can be expected in this compound. It would arise between the phases of D2h17 and D2h13 symmetry, with a modulation wave vector directed along the crystallographic b axis.
