Abstract

This contribution presents neo-Assyrian bone and ivory items recently discovered in pyrotechnical installations in a monumental administrative building at Ziyaret Tepe (Upper Tigris Region, Province Diyarbakir, eastern Turkey). The site has been identified as the ancient provincial capital of Tušan, where Assurnaṣirpal II founded a palace. The installations produced a large number of important finds such as bronze and stone vessels, beads, and ivory. Most notable of the rich goods are staff ZT 18641 and some engraved ivory-inlays, which find parallels in objects from Nimrud as well as in finds from Altıntepe, possibly indicating local influences.
