Ein pragmalinguistischer Ansatz zur Beschreibung von Verbalperiphrasen im Spanischen am Beispiel von «ir a + infinitivo»

Abstract:
Apart from the problem of reaching a consensus on a definition, linguists tend to describe the semantic effects of the Spanish verbal periphrases on a «local way», i. e. without taking into account the text and the context in which those appear. The result is the development of heterogeneous «meaning-lists», which seems quite disappointing, since it leads to hiding the common semantic denominator. The goal of this paper is to propose a functional description of the Spanish verbal periphrasis «ir a + infinitive». It aims at explaining the different interpretations that arise, which are not (or rarely) analysed thoroughly (even though often mentioned). The hypothesis advanced in this paper is that the argumentative context, where the verbal periphrasis appears, determines the development of the respective semantic effects. This paper is part of an investigation that will take into account other Spanish verbal periphrases. Its ultimate aim is to establish an alternative explanation of the so called pragmatic effects assigned to these analytical verbal constructions which play a central role within the Spanish language.
