Wolfgang Jeitschko, professor emeritus of the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster, celebrates his 80th birthday on May 27th, 2016.
Wolfgang Jeitschko is known for his numerous contributions to solid state chemistry in the fields of intermetallics (carbides, silicides, phosphides, aluminides), oxides (molybdates, rhenates and ruthenates), pnictide oxides and their magnetism, and transport properties. His ample scientific work is documented in 485 publications which have been cited more than 13 000 times. He still is an active writer and a member in the scientific board of the renowned international conference on Solid Compounds of Transition Elements (SCTE), meeting this year in Zaragoza, Spain.
The editors, the publisher and the editorial team would like to express their deep respect to Wolfgang Jeitschko for his numerous achievements within the solid state community. As a homage his friends, former co-workers and colleagues have contributed their manuscripts to this special issue of Zeitschrift für Naturforschung B.
