Dear readers, authors, reviewers, colleagues and friends,

We all would like to sincerely thank Professor em. Dr. Oskar Faix for his longstanding and exceptionally dedicated work as the Editor-in-Chief of Holzforschung. It is with great sadness I have to accept the fact that Oskar has decided to resign from his position to take up a more relaxing life. During his 16 years as Editor-in-Chief, the scientific reputation of Holzforschung, as the prime journal for scientific publications in the field of wood science and all aspects thereof, has been solidified and strengthened. Oskar has always had the scientific value and correctness of the published work as the prime target seeing to that each and every publication would offer as much to the reader as possible in contributing and advancing wood science. Apart from his own contributions in reviewing all papers with his extremely deep knowledge in lignin chemistry and spectroscopy, Oskar has been able to establish an excellent editorial board and review team supporting him. With his directions of the publications in Holzforschung, Oskar, in this world of increased competition, has been able to develop and has seen to that the journal has been able to follow the emerging new scientific trends. In this way Holzforschung has been and will continue to be the top journal for publications of wood science. With this strategy in mind Holzforschung will stand strong in meeting the scientific changes in the development of the society into a green economy. It is therefore an extremely honourable and demanding task to take over the position as Editor-in-Chief of Holzforschung from Oskar Faix. It is my hope that all of you will continue to contribute your cutting-edge research work in order to keep up Holzforschung as the excellent journal Oskar Faix has paved the way for.

Once again, I would like to extend my and all my colleagues’ most sincere gratitude to Oskar Faix for the invaluable work he has supported the journal with. We all wish you, Oskar, the very best for the future hoping that you will still keep an interest in wood science and in Holzforschung.
