Introduction

In the past two decades, flow chemistry has grown from an academic curiosity to a mature science domain with applications ranging from pharmaceuticals, fine chemicals to highly innovative materials.

To further drive this evolution forward, the Flow Chemistry Society organises their 5th Flow Chemistry Congress with the aim to unite and represent those who are actively working in this rapidly developing field.

The Flow Chemistry Society is dedicated to the integration of Flow Chemistry into everyday practice, by delivering the latest knowledge and making it available for the entire chemistry community. Contributions from academia as well as industry make this conference unique and a must for those who are interested in this exciting field. In addition, the symposium provides excellent networking opportunities to meet the people behind the research and the industrial applications.

Conference topics and theme

The conference and associated vendor exhibition will cover the latest technological advances and associated services within the field of flow chemistry and microreactor technology. Several topics will be discussed during the different sessions:

  • Engineering aspects of flow chemistry

  • Engineering field

  • Flow chemistry in industry

  • Material sciences

  • Multistep synthesis in flow

  • Nanotechnology

  • Photochemistry in flow

  • Synthesis of solids in flow: preparation of nanomaterials and overcoming clogging issues

Conference chairs

The conference chairs of the 5th Flow Chemistry Congress are:

Aaron Beeler, Assistant Professor, Boston University

Andras Guttman, Adjunct Professor, Northeastern University.

Keynote lectures

Keynote lectures will be provided by the following researchers:

Tim Jamison, Professor, Massachusetts Institute of Technology

Oliver Kappe, Professor, Karl Franzens University of Graz.

Other confirmed speakers include

Graham Jones, Professor/Head, Northeastern University

Joel Hawkins, Pfizer Global Research and Development

Shawn Collins, Professor, University of Montreal

Frank Gupton, Professor, Virginia Commonwealth University

Corey Stephenson, Professor, University of Michigan

Thatcher Root, Professor of Chemical and Biological Engineering, University of Wisconsin.

Venue

The conference takes place at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Mission Valley; located just minutes from the Southern Californian coastline and downtown San Diego.

San Diego offers sunshine, sea breezes and shopping in abundance. The city boasts the beautiful public open space of Balboa Park and the nightlife of the Gaslamp District.

So let us kill two birds with one stone… during the day we will share some excellent talks by recognised researchers in the field of flow chemistry and during the evening and night we will enjoy the different facets of this fantastic city.
