Key features and key objective of GPE2014

The “International Congress on Green Process Engineering” (GPE) lecture series was started in 2007 in Toulouse by Dr. Martine Poux and Prof. Patrick Cognet from the University of Toulouse.

After the success of GPE events in Toulouse (France), Venice (Italy) and Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), the aim of GPE 2014 (Seville, Spain), is to push towards the development of green and sustainable topics in chemistry and chemical engineering. It will bring together leading researchers from academia and industry leaders in these fields, highlighting the recent innovative reactions, products and processes developed in the scope of increasingly sustainable and safe green chemical processes engineering. The GPE 2014 Congress will be distinguished by, amongst others, the presence of renowned researchers, including Avelino Corma (Director of the Instituto Tecnología Química-Valencia and ENI Award 2010, RSC Award 2010), Walter Leitner (Director of the Institute of Technical and Macromolekular Chemistry RWTH Aachen, and Chair of Green Chemistry – RSC Journal), Paul-Joel Derian (Suez Environment, and Chair of SusChem Platform), Eric J. Beckman (Bayer Professor at the University of Pittsburgh and Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award 2002) and many leading academic and industrial groups and companies involved in Green Chemical Engineering.

A key objective of GPE 2014 is to provide an environment that facilitates widespread interdisciplinary communication. To this end, GPE 2014 will offer a platform for sharing fundamental knowledge on industrial research and development between scientists from public and private sectors. It will allow participants to share their visions about sustainable chemistry and green process engineering with other colleagues from different countries and environments and to contribute to the emergence of new and sustainable processes for a greener world.

We hope you will enjoy this unique opportunity to share your vision about sustainable chemistry and green process engineering and to contribute to developing environmentally benign chemical processes for a world in which chemical industry and sustainability will not be considered antithetic but mutually complementary. We look forward seeing you at this occasion in the beautiful city of Seville in Spain.

Conference topics and communications

The GPE 2014 Congress concentrates on eight topics, namely “Sustainable and clean technologies”, “New reaction media and green solvents”, “Process design, modelling and optimization”, “Biocatalytic processes”, “Biomass and biorefinery”, “Environment, safety and risk management”, “Sustainable energies” and “Green chemical and engineering education”. These topics shall be mirrored and spotlighted by plenary lectures and keynotes given by renowned speakers. The call for papers includes both oral and poster communications. A space dedicated for exhibitions (booths available to rent) will be proposed.

A selection of communications based on the full texts will be proposed for publication the special issues of two international journals: Catalysis Today and International Journal on Chemical Reactor Engineering.

Venue

GPE 2014 will be held on April 7–10, 2014 in Seville (Spain). Seville the 4th largest Spanish city, is the artistic, historical and cultural capital of southern Spain. Seville possesses one of the largest historic quarters in Europe where visitors can admire several landmarks declared as Heritage Sites, e.g., the Cathedral, the Archive of the Indies, the Royal Alcázar Palace, the Torre del Oro, and many other churches and palaces of great historic and artistic value. Spring in Seville has a special atmosphere, garlanded with the sweet scent of orange blossom and jasmine, and a frisson of excited anticipation, as the city’s two most important events take place, first Semana Santa and then the April Fair. The tapas are one of the city’s greatest gastronomic attractions: people go from bar to bar trying the local specialities, generating a wonderful atmosphere to be enjoyed especially in spring.

The GPE congress is under the auspice of the EFCE (European Federation of Chemical Engineering).
