EuropaCat and catalysis
Catalysis is at the heart of major societal and industrial challenges concerning energy, environment, health and sustainable development. To meet these challenges, an interdisciplinary approach from molecules to materials and processes is required, joining efforts from heterogeneous, homogeneous and enzymatic catalysis. EuropaCat’s issues are to cover the most advanced research topics in the interdisciplinary field of Catalysis and to pave the way for future research challenges.
The scientific program is based on nine topics distributed in four parallel sessions covering all the fundamental and applied aspects of catalysis. We have received more than 1700 scientific papers and we are expecting about 1500 congressists from all over the world, and among them the best scientific researchers on formal and applied catalysis, as well as many of industrial participants. EuropaCat remains a very attractive international venue for discussing on catalysis and the organizing committee is sure that this 11th edition will be a very real success.
Issues
In 1993, the 1st European Congress on Catalysis was held in Montpellier, France.
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of this well-established meeting, EuropaCat XI will take place in Lyon, France, from September 1st to 6th 2013.
EuropaCat will cover the most advanced research topics in the interdisciplinary field of catalysis and to pave the way for future research challenges.
EuropaCat 2013 aims to cover:
A collaboration space between researchers from international communities;
Exchanges and results of numerous researches regarding catalysis subjects;
The demonstration of the applications of catalysis in the industrial world.
EuropaCat 2013 will be observable on a regional as well as on an international scale:
It is an important promotion of the relevance of scientific studies, researches and programs of the scientific institutions in Rhône-Alpes region;
It is a congress that aims to federate regional participants that gives them an excellent opportunity to show the results of their research to numerous international scientists;
It is a real stimulating event for the constitution of networks and collaborations between worldwide researchers.
Scientific program
Today, catalysis is at the heart of major societal and industrial challenges concerning energy, environment, health and sustainable development. To meet these challenges, an interdisciplinary approach from molecules to materials and processes is required, joining efforts from heterogeneous, homogeneous and enzymatic catalysis.
The scientific program is based on nine topics distributed in four parallel sessions covering all the fundamental and applied aspects of catalysis.
The general context will be presented along six plenary conferences.
Twelve kenote lectures will introduce each specific topic.

Plenary conference speaker Enrique Iglesia, Theodore Vermeulen Chair in Chemical Engineering, University of California at Berkeley.

Keynote speaker Fabrizio Cavani, Associate Professor of Industrial Chemistry, University of Bologna, Italy.
The topics are:
New concepts in catalyst design and preparation
Understanding the catalytic active sites and reactions
Catalytic engineering
Transportation, industrial & domestic fuels: Combining & comparing fossil & renewable resources
Catalysis for chemical energy transformation and storage
Catalysis for chemicals and biobased products
Catalysis for functional and biobased materials
Catalysis for pollution treatment
Catalytic transformation of CO2
Local Organizing Committee
The Local Organizing Committee is composed with 11 researchers and assembles several institutions involved in scientific research and development of catalysis:
Chairman: Philippe Sautet, University of Lyon
Claude De Bellefon, University of Lyon
Pierre Galezot, University of Lyon
Jean-Pierre Gilson, University of Caen
Christèle Izoard-Martin, University of Lyon
David Loffreda, University of Lyon
Claude Mirodatos, University of Lyon
Catherine Pinel, University of Lyon
Pascal Raybaud, IFP Energies Nouvelles
Jean-Francis Spindler, Solvay-Rhodia
Venue
Lyon convention center
The plenary room of 3000 consists of – seven “working rooms” – a large exhibition space which will showcase 1300 posters – andspaces dedicated to facilitating exchanging ideas and relaxing.
