Readers’ interest and the clinically significant relevance of case reports inspired the editors and publisher of the Journal of Perinatal Medicine to set up a new journal called Case Reports in Perinatal Medicine (CRPM).
The aim of the new journal is to collect cases with uncommon diagnoses, descriptions of new diseases, innovative therapeutic methods and unusual side effects of therapy. The journal hopes to publish unique cases, rarities or reports with high educational input. The journal will not accept repeat publication of similar cases as those previously published in the medical literature.
In the world of evidence-based medicine, is there any place for brief reports describing anecdotal cases? Yes, one case or a small number of cases can generate research questions and can induce prospective studies. Case reports can have a high educational value, they can influence clinical decisions and behavior, and the knowledge after reading case reports may help in making a diagnosis and in treating similar patients more successfully.
