Like Paper: Birch Bark and its Mechanical Properties

SUMMARIES
Modern birch bark sheets made according to the pattern of this ancient writing material were obtained and submitted to several of the tests usually used for paper testing. Significant differences became obvious, but some parallels were also noted.
Des feuilles modernes d'écorce de bouleau, fabriquées selon la méthode ancienne utilisée dans la confection de ce support d'écriture, ont été soumises à différents tests tels que ceux utilisés pour le papier. Des différences significatives mais également un certain parallélisme ont été constatés.
An modernen Blättern aus Birkenrinde, hergestellt nach dem Vorbild dieses historischen Beschreibstoffes, wurde Messungen durchgeführt, wie sie für Papier üblich sind. Es zeigten sich signifikante Unterschiede, aber auch einige Parallelität.
