Abstract

Between the fifties and seventies of the last century, the field of Presocratic studies saw the emergence, in Italy and France alike, of singular figures of scholars who distanced themselves, more or less explicitly, from the research methods dominant in the universities of the time. The aim of our contribution, centered in a limited number of selected examples, including Giorgio Colli for Italy and Jean Bollack (with his school) for France, will be to test the hypothesis that the choice of the Presocratic field may have favoured such questioning. We will focus in particular on the articulation, in the methods of these scholars, between philology and philosophy, the sciences of text and the sciences of interpretation. To conclude we will examine the relationship between their methods and a possible Nietzschean filiation of their work (obvious for Colli, less so for the others). Our contribution will take the form of a dialogue between the two authors.
