Differential object marking in the dialects of Southern Calabria
-

Abstract
Although Differential Object Marking (DOM) has been extensively studied in prominent Romance languages such as Spanish and Romanian, there is a significant gap in research on DOM in the (Italo-Romance) dialects of Calabria. Previous studies have demonstrated that DOM in Romance languages is shaped by factors like animacy, definiteness, and specificity. However, the precise characteristics and scope of these influences in Southern Calabrian dialects have not been thoroughly explored. This work deepens our understanding of the variation in Southern Calabrian DOM (strategies) and its relation to similar patterns in other Romance languages.
