Abstract

The Practica Oculorum of Benvenuto Grafeo had good circulation first in Latin, then in the vulgar versions. During the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, five independent translations were done into Catalan (lost version), French, Italian (two versions), and Occitan. Starting from the comparative analysis of editiones principes and the four vulgarizations - for which new editions are in progress - we will investigate the affinities and differences under the cultural and lexicological profile to provide some information on the production environments of the vulgar versions of the Practica.
