Abstract
Salix alba as a drug has many medicinal benefits like pain relief, anti-inflammatory effects, fever reduction, migraine relief, relief in gastrointestinal discomfort, and menstrual pain relief. This research study aims to develop the Salix alba powderreinforced polycaprolactone (PCL)-polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) composite solution used for the controlled release for additive manufacturing of stockings. Salix alba was reinforced with various compositions of PCL and PVA to manufacture stockings for drug release at a controlled rate. PCL-PVA blended with chloroform to form a gel solution and Salix alba was incorporated by 5 wt.% in each composition. The drug release for each fabricated composite with varied compositions was tested by using UV spectroscopy. From the UV spectroscopy, it was observed that the controlled drug release depended on various parameters such as drug variation of the PVA loading in the PCL matrix and uniformity of the Salix alba particle distribution.
