Chapter 19 Improving Chaos Control: Implications for Economic Policies

Abstract
Controlling chaotic systems can be easier than controlling linear systems because a small push may outcome in a large change in the system. Any one of a number of different orbits can be stabilized by small control and the choice can be switched from one periodic orbit to another by very small correction of its parameters, without drastically altering the systems configuration or interfering with their inherent properties. As a result, the complexity of conceivable behaviors in chaotic systems can be used to improve the performance of a dynamical system in ways that would not be possible if the system’s development were not chaotic. In this viewpoint, the authors identify several aspect to support using the RP analysis combined with Floquet method in controlling the behavior of chaotic economic systems. This because RP is a more flexible and more precise tool for working with short data sets and for identifying the UPOs from a chaotic attractor and Floquet theory allows overcoming the difficulties to stabilize an UPO.
