3 The Wisdom of Shared Interests: Entrepreneurial Intelligence and Its Development Through Online Maker Communities
-
and
Abstract
A key motivation of the entrepreneurship literature centers around promoting not just more entrepreneurship, but rather more productive forms of entrepreneurship. Recent calls, moreover, seek to coalesce the field around its conceptual core regardless of the manifestation of entrepreneurship under consideration - whether it be new venture creation, intrapreneurship, investment, and so on. Uniting such discussions of entrepreneurship more fully, this chapter recognizes the existence of an innate capability, termed entrepreneurial intelligence, underlying all manifestations and seeks to elaborate on the mechanisms by which it may be practically developed. Using the context of nature versus nurture, we illustrate how entrepreneurial intelligence depends holistically upon both factors within a context of Knightian uncertainty. Furthermore, we look to online maker communities as a contextual setting in which to see a conceptual example of its development in practice, specifically in terms of how such communities tacitly elaborate on the explicit feedback of profit and loss.
