Riehl als Neukantianer
Abstract
Based on an examination of Alois Riehl’s Philosophical Criticism as well as his smaller writings, the text strives to work out the complexity of neo-Kantianism. Riehl’s philosophy forms a central interface in this school of thought, as will be demonstrated by concrete historical events. Particular emphasis is placed on the effectiveness of Riehl’s concept of sensibility, his interpretation of criticism, his critique of metaphysics, his distinction between scientific and non-scientific philosophy, and the role of epistemology. Consequently, the text forms a plea for understanding Riehl as a neo-Kantian, but under the premise that this is a very heterogeneous philosophical tradition which is not only of historical interest.
