Abstract
This chapter explains the concept of supply chain management and describes it in detail to give readers a rough idea about it. It also mentions how supply chain management is helping the construction industry in the current scenario. The chapter further discusses the history and evolution of supply chain management over the years. Additionally, it shows the working process of supply chain management and the numerous advantages it provides to the construction industry. Moreover, the functions and components of supply chain management are also mentioned here. The chapter also addresses the major challenges that supply chain management faces at present along with some steps to overcome those challenges. Additionally, some graphs are plotted based on various sources to support the theme of the chapter and the book. This chapter focuses on supply chain management in a particular sector, which is the construction sector, but it is also a part of supply chains that, in a way, supports the main theme of the book.
