Abstract
The article „Alterity, Experiment, Incarnation: Towards a Media Anthropology of Bipersonality“ seeks to contribute to the much-discussed topic of discourse on embodiment. Taking a historical perspective, the article focuses on a particular concept closely related to that of the Gestaltkreis developed by the German physician and representative of the so-called medical anthropology (medizinische Anthropologie) Viktor vonWeizsäcker and inspired by cybernetics. The term of bipersonality was coined by scholars dealing with the ideas of von Weizsäcker. It made it possible to avoid certain entrenched polarities such as object and subject, bodyand tool - and in terms of methodology it also avoided the backlash that had developed in the clash of academic cultures (natural sciences vs. cultural studies). With this original contribution (despite its less original experimental background), a new theoretical framework was created which was highly relevant for theoretical thought in the 20th century (for example, in the context of all kinds of systems theory), although it has also been grossly underestimated in terms of the scope of theoretical thought.
