»Speaking of Job«: A Philological and Exegetical Proposal on Job 42:7–8

Abstract
This study proposes a new analysis and translation of Job 42:7–8, focusing on the renderings of the prepositions אל and כ. Understood correctly, these verses indicate that the three friends have spoken falsely, not about God, but Job. In this way they have borne false testimony about Job to God, and it is for this reason that his wrath is kindled against them.
Zusammenfassung
Neue Analyse und Übersetzung von Hiob 42,7–8, wobei der Schwerpunkt auf der Wiedergabe der Präpositionen אל und כ liegt. Richtig verstanden deuten diese Verse darauf hin, dass die drei Freunde falsch gesprochen haben, und zwar nicht über Gott, sondern über Hiob. Auf diese Weise haben sie vor Gott ein falsches Zeugnis über Hiob abgelegt, und aus diesem Grund entbrennt sein Zorn gegen sie.
Résumé
Cette étude propose une nouvelle analyse et traduction de Job 42,7–8, en se concentrant sur les traductions des prépositions אל et כ. Bien compris, ces versets indiquent que les trois amis ont parlé faussement, non pas de Dieu, mais de Job. De cette façon, ils ont rendu un faux témoignage de Job à Dieu, et c’est pour cette raison que sa colère s’est enflammée contre eux.
