Genesis 9:1–7: P, H or D?

Abstract
Gen 9:1–7 has traditionally been regarded as the Priestly epilogue to the Priestly flood story. In this article, I aim to refute this view and demonstrate that this unit, which incorporates various motifs from Priestly literature as well as from Deuteronomistic (D) and Holiness Code (H) texts, was edited by the Holiness School (HS) during the time of the return to Zion after the exile. Its stated purpose was an all-out struggle against the animals that threatened the sparsely populated state of Yehud.
Zusammenfassung
Gen 9,1–7 wird traditionell als priesterlicher Epilog zur priesterlichen Fluterzählung angesehen. Die Analyse zeigt jedoch, dass der Abschnitt, der verschiedene Motive aus priesterlicher, aber auch deuteronomistischer (D) Literatur sowie aus dem Heiligkeitsgesetz (H) aufnimmt, von der Holiness School (HS) zur Zeit der nachexilischen Rückkehr zum Zion bearbeitet wurde. Als Zielsetzung der Holiness School wird ein umfassendes Ringen gegen die Tiere postuliert, die den spärlich besiedelten Staat Yehud bedrohten.
Résumé
Gn 9,1–7 a été traditionnellement considéré comme l’épilogue de l’histoire sacerdotale du déluge. L’analyse de cet article démontre que ce passage incorpore divers motifs de la littérature sacerdotale ainsi que des textes deutéronomistes (D) et du Code de Sainteté (H), et qu’il a été édité par l’École de Sainteté (HS) à l’époque post-exilique du retour de l’exil. Il avait pour but de lutter contre les animaux savauge qui menaçaient l’État peu peuplé de Yehoud.
