Early Christianity in Rome
Ein Kapitel aus dem Buch Early Christianity in Rome

Abstract

In the New Testament, Rome is mainly dealt with in two writings. Paul’s letter to the Christ believers in Rome is a testimony to the presence of various Christ groups in Rome, but provides little information about their actual situation. In the Acts of the Apostles, on the other hand, Paul’s arrival in Rome is presented as an important event in the development of Christianity. Furthermore, the pseudonymous letter under the authority of Peter (1 Peter) can be considered an early testimony to the Petrine tradition in Rome. Together with other early Christian writings from the late first and early second centuries, these writings bear witness to a development in which Rome became an important center for Christianity in the course of the second century.
