Abstract
As opposed to the virtually fatherless young in early Arthurian romance - the patron is fatherless Merlin -, the hitherto repressed generational problem with its refeudalizing tendencies begins to reappear at the beginning of the postclassical period. The quest for identity of Guinglain in Le Bel Inconnu will be linked to the recognition of his father. In Yder the father-son relationship forms the background of the romance whose hero will save his parents by reconciling and wedding them. In Meriadeuc ou Le Chevalier aux deux épées the hero will be the redeemer of his family.
