Let φ be a holomorphic mapping between complex unit balls. We characterize those regular φ for which the composition operators C φ: f ↦ f ○ φ map the Bloch space into the Hardy space.

For a fixed n > 2, we study the set Λ of generalized idempotents, which are operators satisfying T n+1 = T. Also the subsets Λ†, of operators such that T n−1 is the Moore-Penrose pseudo-inverse of T, and Λ*, of operators such that T n−1 = T* (known as generalized projections) are studied. The local smooth structure of these sets is examined.

Let A and B be Banach function algebras on compact Hausdorff spaces X and Y, respectively, and let \(\bar A\) and \(\bar B\) be their uniform closures. Let I, I′ be arbitrary non-empty sets, α ∈ ℂ\{0}, ρ: I → A, τ: l′ → a and S: I → B T: l′ → B be maps such that ρ(I, τ(I′) and S(I), T(I′) are closed under multiplications and contain exp A and expB, respectively. We show that if ‖S(p)T(p′)−α‖Y=‖ρ(p)τ(p′) − α‖x for all p ∈ I and p′ ∈ I′, then there exist a real algebra isomorphism S: A → B, a clopen subset K of M B and a homeomorphism ϕ: M B → M A between the maximal ideal spaces of B and A such that for all f ∈ A, where \(\hat \cdot\) denotes the Gelfand transformation. Moreover, S can be extended to a real algebra isomorphism from \(\bar A\) onto \(\bar B\) inducing a homeomorphism between \(M_{\bar B}\) and \(M_{\bar A}\) . We also show that under an additional assumption related to the peripheral range, S is complex linear, that is A and B are algebraically isomorphic. We also consider the case where α = 0 and X and Y are locally compact.

Linear isometries of N p(D) onto N p(D) are described, where N p(D), p > 1, is the set of all holomorphic functions f on the upper half plane D = {z ∈ ℂ: Im z > 0} such that supy>0 ∫ℝ lnp (1 + |(x + iy)|) dx < +∞. Our result is an improvement of the results by D.A. Efimov.

Let M be a Riemannian manifold equipped with two complementary orthogonal distributions D and D ⊥. We introduce the conformal flow of the metric restricted to D with the speed proportional to the divergence of the mean curvature vector H, and study the question: When the metrics converge to one for which D enjoys a given geometric property, e.g., is harmonic, or totally geodesic? Our main observation is that this flow is equivalent to the heat flow of the 1-form dual to H, provided the initial 1-form is D ⊥-closed. Assuming that D ⊥ is integrable with compact and orientable leaves, we use known long-time existence results for the heat flow to show that our flow has a solution converging to a metric for which H = 0; actually, under some topological assumptions we can prescribe the mean curvature H.

We prove certain weak versions of some celebrated results due to Alexander Vishik comparing rationality of algebraic cycles over the function field of a quadric and over the base field. The original proofs use Vishik’s symmetric operations in the algebraic cobordism theory and work only in characteristic 0. Our proofs use the modulo 2 Steenrod operations in the Chow theory and work in any characteristic ≠ 2. Our weak versions are still sufficient for existing applications. In particular, Vishik’s construction of fields of u-invariant 2r + 1, for r ≥ 3, is extended to arbitrary characteristic ≠ 2.

We prove certain results comparing rationality of algebraic cycles over the function field of a quadric and over the base field. These results have already been obtained by Alexander Vishik in the case of characteristic 0, which allowed him to work with algebraic cobordism theory. Our proofs use the modulo 2 Steenrod operations in the Chow theory and work in any characteristic ≠ 2.

A subgroup H of a group G is said to permute with a subgroup K of G if HK is a subgroup of G. H is said to be permutable (resp. S-permutable) if it permutes with all the subgroups (resp. Sylow subgroups) of G. Finite groups in which permutability (resp. S-permutability) is a transitive relation are called PT-groups (resp. PST-groups). PT-, PST- and T-groups, or groups in which normality is transitive, have been extensively studied and characterised. Kaplan [Kaplan G., On T-groups, supersolvable groups, and maximal subgroups, Arch. Math. (Basel), 2011, 96(1), 19–25] presented some new characterisations of soluble T-groups. The main goal of this paper is to establish PT- and PST-versions of Kaplan’s results, which enables a better understanding of the relationships between these classes.

We study the p-adic equation x q = a over the field of p-adic numbers. We construct an algorithm which gives a solvability criteria in the case of q = p m and present a computer program to compute the criteria for any fixed value of m ≤ p − 1. Moreover, using this solvability criteria for q = 2; 3; 4; 5; 6, we classify p-adic 6-dimensional filiform Leibniz algebras.

We consider a class of age-structured control problems with nonlocal dynamics and boundary conditions. For these problems we suggest Arrow-type sufficient conditions for optimality of problems defined on finite as well as infinite time intervals. We examine some models as illustrations (optimal education and optimal offence control problems).

We show global existence for a class of models of fluids that change their properties depending on the concentration of a chemical. We allow that the stress tensor in (t, x) depends on the velocity and concentration at other points and times. The example we have in mind foremost are materials with memory.

A mathematical model of dissociative adsorption and associative desorption for diatomic molecules is generalized. The model is described by a coupled system of parabolic and ordinary differential equations. The existence and uniqueness theorem of the classical solution is proved.

This paper presents a mathematical model for photo-excited carrier decay in a semiconductor. Due to the carrier trapping states and recombination centers in the bandgap, the carrier decay process is defined by the system of nonlinear differential equations. The system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations is approximated by linearized backward Euler scheme. Some a priori estimates of the discrete solution are obtained and the convergence of the linearized backward Euler method is proved. The identifiability analysis of the parameters of deep centers is performed and the fitting of the model to experimental data is done by using the genetic optimization algorithm. Results of numerical experiments are presented.

Hanoi graphs H pn model the Tower of Hanoi game with p pegs and n discs. Sierpinski graphs S pn arose in investigations of universal topological spaces and have meanwhile been studied extensively. It is proved that S pn embeds as a spanning subgraph into H pn if and only if p is odd or, trivially, if n = 1.
